GETTING HERE

Kastelholm is approximately 30 minutes by car from Mariehamn. Drive north along route 2 towards Sund and Vardö.
By bus, take Bus 4 to and from Mariehamn – Vardö. During peak season in July, the bus goes all the way up to the Kastelholm Castle bus stop. At other times during the year, the bus will stop at the Kastelholm or Tosarby vsk bus stop along route 2, a 10-minute walk from the castle.

ACCESSIBILITY

The castle itself is inaccessible to disabled persons due to the many and steep stairways. This also applies to baby carriages and strollers. There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet and a toilet with a changing table located in Grindstugan next to Jan Karlsgården’s parking lot.

MUSEUM SHOP AND TOURIST INFO

The area’s museum shop and tourist information are located in Grindstugan next to Jan Karlsgården’s parking lot. The museum shop has souvenirs, publications, post cards and stamps, glass and much more. You can also find tourist brochures and other information there.

FOOD & BEVERAGES

There are restaurants and cafés near the castle which cater to all tastes. You will find good pastries and freshly baked bread, Ålandic apple wine and Michael Björklund’s oasis of artisanal production of food and beverages.

TOURS AND ACTIVITIES

During peak season, we offer our popular tours, with two or more historical characters conducting the tour around the castle. There are audio-guides available for loan in Finnish, Swedish and English all season long and there are special activities and experiences for children.
