Jan Karlsgården open air museum

Jan Karlsgården open air museum is full of Åland traditions and gives you an idea of how an Åland farm might have been during 1800 Century. Activities are also organized here both summer and winter.

When the museum was founded in the 1930s, it was named after the farm Jan Karls in Finström, where main building is coming from. Today there are about twenty buildings on Jan Karlsgården – all have been moved here from different parts of the island. Together, they give the visitors a large dose of Åland building and living culture and showcases environments as the natives lived and worked in one time.

During the summer, among other activity days organized here and since the 1940s it is a tradition to erect a maypole here on Midsummer Eve. The annual Little Christmas market, the first weekend in december, is Åland’s largest Christmas market. The Summercafé Jan Karlsgårdens Wärdshus is open during high-season.
